Art and Design
'Every Child is an Artist'
At Healdswood Infant and Nursery School, art and design is an integral part of our pupil’s broad and balanced curriculum. Our Art and Design curriculum provided our pupils with the opportunity to develop independence; express their creativity and curiosity leading to authentic, purposeful art exploration. Our curriculum provides our pupils with opportunities to develop their knowledge of artistic disciplines, such as sculpture: drawing, painting and collage. Our pupils will be inspired through the exploration of existing art completed by notable artists within each discipline. Pupils will explore different media, enabling them to have a knowledge of concepts such as: line, shape, shade and colour. Pupils will learn how art and design both reflects and shapes our history, and that it contributes to the culture and creativity of our nation.
Our Art and Design curriculum is taught through three strands at Healdswood Infant and Nursery School:
- Drawing and painting,
- 3D Art
- Digital Art (computing)
Following a detailed understanding of the artist children will imitate aspects of the artists style demonstrated in the art. Once the pupils have developed the skills to imitate what they have observed and understood, they innovate their own art using and applying their core knowledge taught with originality. We celebrate our pupil’s success by exhibiting their art and this allows them to be proud that their artistic endeavours are valued by the school community.
Our ambition is for all our pupils to access the full Art curriculum. All teachers support and facilitate access to the Art curriculum by scaffolding or providing teacher support.
